May 3rd, 2022:
The Spring Sea Collection
Published May 3rd, 2022, in honor of my late grandfather on his date of birth.
This collection embodies so many firsts… It’s my first collection of the year. First time photographing in a frame of sand and salt water. First time using soft pastel colors, and the first time using my new stone gray elk leather from last season’s hunt. This is the first collection I’ve dedicated to a lost loved one. It’s my first official collaboration with @tristansstainedglass (my magick filled earth mother).
And this is my first time removing the pressure and allowing myself to create at my own pace, in my own rhythm. I spent a few months in Greece last fall, editing my poetry book and moving slow. I travelled through Athens, the North of the Mainland, and a handful of islands. My mom even joined me for a few (yup, very magical) weeks.
Greece sure rubbed off on me; I hope you can feel it in these pieces. Locals laugh as they tease themselves about “Greek island time” — how everyone is set to their own clocks, or no clocks at all. The sea takes the reins, and the people dance and shout with bellies full of raki, olives, and sea bass carpaccio. I’ve never felt so consistently centered in my own nervous system. This slowing down allowed me to take in new colors, new ways of seeing, and a new calmness to my baseline energy movements.
May we continue to laugh, stretch, breathe, dance, eat fresh, and move in reflection of the sea.
