Wind Words

I’ve officially self-published my first poetry book. It’s available here for purchase.

“Wind Words is a collection of travel poems inspired by nature and written in an endeavor to capture the many movements of the seasons and the lives of those who inhabit them. In her verse, Magenta explores love and lust, grounding and grieving, history and home using the imagery of the natural world as a catalyst for her own human experience. This first self-published collection includes 50 poems. These poems were written over the course of a decade and gathered here in hopes of preserving their impact not only on Magenta herself, but also her readers.”

My First Hunt

Some thoughts and gratitude statements regarding hunting and harvest:

My first big game harvest was an antelope. I crawled over cactus to get a closer, clean angle. He never noticed my presence and dropped instantly with a single shot. My heart was racing. I was 12 years old.

I Want to Give You Labels

I want to name you cinder, so I can burn you down to a combustible coal with no flame, chopped churned coated over the rough road of my tastebuds to melt each still icy shadowed remnant of last winter’s memories.

I want to name you scoop, and just that easily I will spoon you up with one large ladle then swallow you whole like a simple sacrifice meant to let me learn the flavor of your parts from the inside.

Camping Solo Thoughts

My first solo camping adventure in a long time. (And the first of many to come!)

Initially I was afraid of the two days of rain. I wasn't sure I had the gear I needed to stay warm - especially because I'm perpetually cold!

But it was full of magick, to say the least. The rain broke for about two hours.

Giving me enough time to make coffee over my little camp stove, and to catch this epic rainbow.

The Amethyst Collection

THE INSPIRATION: This collection is restorative. It's inspired by the wind and the mountains. By sunrise and sunset shadows. Buy the stillness of silence and the energy of weather cycles.
It is an ode to Mother Nature's innate nurturing.

▪︎

THE DEDICATION: This collection is dedicated to the wise, wild one inside ourselves. The one raised by our Earth, already knowing the answers. The one who holds an intuitive understanding of what we are capable of, why we are here, and how to move forward into a world of love, healing, and growth. She is the brave one, who lifts others as she rises.

I Bought a Fleshing Knife

We are blessed to have the opportunity to harvest this much clean food for our family.

These animals are gorgeous. We recognize their spirit and respect their wisdom.

All of us are grown and nurtured from mother nature. We are so grateful to be in rhythm with her and have the honor of experiencing her gifts.

Thoughts on Sustainability

My family hunts in Montana, in the valley where I grew up. This hunting system is monitored and regulated by @montanafwp and guided by scientific research to restore & maintain healthy populations of deer, elk, and others.

The hunting economy (of hunting tag fees, and taxes on amo and guns) funds these open lands and prevents them from transferring into private ranchettes or developed land. It's an entire system that maintains balance and growth of healthy, quality habitat.

Logo Inspiration

The Logo is something I designed myself 🥰 with the help of a few beautiful friends!

The flower is called a Bitterroot - which is the state flower, and also the name of the valley I grew up in.

The shrubbery is Sage, of course!

And the antlers honor the feminine, the divine strength of creation, the importance of our earth mama.

The Story of this Magpie Crown

One day he came to our home with this crown. He said he found the Magpie up in a tree, perfectly preserved and passed of natural causes. He harvested the wings and transformed them into this beautiful piece, in recognition of my name and as a marker of my transition into womanhood.

We Carry The Pain

We carry the pain
of our grandmothers.
Both bare feet grow
down into earth,
rooted in the
overfilled compost
of maternal ancestors
and their histories.
These shaking legs
are on fire
as we stand tall
to shoulder stories
of the mistreated
and the violated.

Self Care is Word

The sage in this photo is from my hometown of Hamilton, Montana. I returned to this home last week, and rebooted my whole system.

I've carried stress and pressure that accumulated for months. And, with my bare feet in the Montana earth, I was able to decompress this load.

I return back to my San Diego home with a reignited energy.

Leaving the Cement City

I get to return to the land where my family harvests these incredible animals. From here, I am able to bring home some elk meat from last year's hunt. I have three mule deer hides (my favorite to work with) salted and ready for the tanning process. And I will have a rejuvenated energy straight from source.

A Hard-to-Describe Feeling

There is a return to self when we are stripped of all the energies and chaos that pile up around us - those which push down on our freedom to BE. When there is so much influence directing our thoughts, our feelings, our bodies, we max out and let go.

When that influence is released, it is met with a gentle reminder that we are now raw. We are now released of context and free to rebuild in whichever direction we choose. We are re-empowered to create the world around us, and within us.
