A Quarantine creation to invoke growth, healing, and hope.
This piece was designed and beaded during COVID-19 summer of 2020, while BLM protests took over the streets. I could feel the restless energy in our community and build up of fear, confusion, anger, and sadness — which I ultimately channeled into this hand beaded heart. The green stands for growth, and embraces the green heart energy center.
I used cross stitching software to adapt and adjust a photograph of an anatomical heart. Then, I adjusted the colors to a monochromatic green. From there, I basically just beaded-by-number from the top left to the bottom right.
Materials:
Seed Beads, Natural Whitetail Deer Leather, Handmade frame with 5 different types of beautiful hardwood – including purple heart. Topped with glass and hung by sturdy wire.

Seed Bead Colors:
• Brass • Forest • Lime • Mint • Frost
I was able to bead about 10 rows in an hour, with just over 1,000 seed beads in this final design. I used cross stitching software to adapt and adjust a photograph of an anatomical heart; then, I just beaded by number from top left to bottom right. I sewed the entire beaded piece onto natural blonde deer leather. The heart was framed by a friend, using 5 different types of beautiful hardwood. Topped with glass and hung by sturdy wire.
