The Story of this Magpie Crown
Midnight Mountain Fringe Earrings
Ft. a veryyy sacred personal item:
From childhood, my mom gave me the nickname "Magpie." This crown is made of a magpie's wings, brass, and moonstone. It was gifted to me as a coming of age marker.
I grew up in the small town of Hamilton, MT. My father was a carpenter and built a custom home for a man that ultimately became a dear family friend. This man is a Cherokee multi-media artist and silversmith. He also led the indigenous ceremonies I participated in as a child.
One day he came to our home with this crown. He said he found the Magpie up in a tree, perfectly preserved and passed of natural causes. He harvested the wings and transformed them into this beautiful piece, in recognition of my name and as a marker of my transition into womanhood.
I shared this story with @beckapalter and @rainbowroadstudios during our Anza Borrego outting. It fills my heart to have captured this personal item alongside my artwork, as both are an expression of who I am and where I come from.
A big big thank you to my sisters for hearing my story and receiving it with love and grace. Out of all the shots from that day, this series hits my heart the hardest.
These incredible photos encapsulate the divine feminine.
The raw strength of womanhood.
The love of mama earth and her creations.
(I truly believe these photos are full of magick.)
